BBT Update: Program Code Updates for Improved Data and Systems
Introducing Updated Program Code Structure
The Banner Business Transformation (BBT) program is introducing an updated program code structure to improve how program information is managed across our systems and tools.
Beginning with the Fall 2027 applicant cycle, all new student records will use the updated program codes in Banner SaaS.
While this change may take some time to get used to, it is an important step in strengthening our data and enabling key tools like Degreeworks and Smart Plan—with more enhancements on the BBT roadmap.
What’s changing
Program codes have been restructured to align with Banner best practices and support greater consistency, reporting, and system integration.

What this means for you
- When communicating with students or the public, use program names/titles as the primary reference. Program codes may be used where relevant, depending on the audience and context.
- When you need program codes for system use (e.g. data entry or reporting), you can access them through the Program Code Reference File
- If you manage materials or content, review and update any documents, forms, webpages, or resources that reference program codes
What you need to do
- Awareness: Understand the change and where to find program codes
- If applicable: Proactively update materials that include program codes in advance of Fall 2027
- If you use reporting or systems: Familiarize yourself with the new structure using the reference file
