Exploring the signifcance of the canoe and its role in Truth and Reconciliation

Over two weeks in July 2022, five Indigenous students from Mohawk College worked with master canoe builder Chuck Commanda and others from the college community to build a traditional birchbark canoe at the college’s Fennell campus. This 25-minute documentary explores the significance of the canoe, its role in Truth and Reconciliation, and the impact of this project on the students and the community.  Mohawk College's Communications department filmed and edited the documentary, which was produced in collaboration with the college's Indigenous Education and Student Services department on the film. Canoa was shot on location in Hamilton, Ontario.
