CEC Communications - Management Bargaining Update - December 17,2021

Below is the most recent information from the College Employer Council (CEC).

The Council is the government mandated bargaining agent for the 24 Ontario publicly funded colleges in negotiating collective agreements with unionized staff. In addition, the CEC provides a variety of services for the college system, such as advice and guidance on human resources issues, collective agreement administration, research, and is the policyholder for group benefits.

Updates are distributed as they become available. You may also wish to go to the CEC website at www.thecouncil.ca where they have dedicated a page to publish all communications from OPSEU and Management such that it is a resource to everyone looking for additional information.

Management Bargaining Update, December 17

As the fall semester comes to a close, we acknowledge how difficult it has been. The global pandemic continues to bring uncertainty to the College sector and doesn’t appear to be going away anytime soon. Labour relations brings an additional level of stress.

The CEC remains engaged in the negotiation process. We introduced terms and conditions from our November 23 proposal to improve and enhance working conditions. We have no plans to introduce additional terms. None of this activity precludes further negotiations.

As we enter the winter break, we acknowledge that this has been a frustrating round of negotiations. We recognize that bargaining is stressful for everyone involved.

We hope that both sides can see the break as a time to rest and refocus energies on concluding an agreement in the new year. Particularly, in these uncertain times, we need to put our differences aside in the best interests of students, our colleagues, and our communities.
