Celebrating International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day (IWD) is an annual global campaign on March 8 to recognize women’s economic, political and social achievements. March is also recognized as Women’s History Month in many countries. This year, the United Nations’ theme for IWD is “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality.” It aims to recognize and celebrate the women and girls championing the advancement of transformative technology and digital education, addressing the gender digital gap, protecting the rights of women and girls in digital spaces, and addressing online and ICT-facilitated gender-based violence.

How can you get involved?

●        Use any of the IWD ZOOM backgrounds during your virtual meetings.

●        Test your knowledge by participating in the IWD Quiz. Then, share some facts with your colleagues.

●        Recognize a woman who is a friend, mentor, family member, an important person in history or the present day, or even yourself, and share with us what they mean to you! This can be done through a poster, painting, write-up, poem, etc. (get creative!). Then, submit your entry to celine.wong@mohawkcollege.ca or drop it off in Social Inc. F114. Submissions will be displayed in Social Inc., and those who provide a submission will be entered to win a prize!

●        Learn and participate in Women’s History Month Bingo on March 17 from 2:00 pm-3:00 pm. To register, email socialinc@mohawkcollege.ca

●        Colour outside the lines. Pick up a free coloring page from F114 of inspiring women worldwide who have worked to create positive change throughout history and the women who are reinventing our world today.
