Corus Entertainment helps Mohawk students stay dialed into studies

Mohawk College has created a new Global News Scholarship program thanks to a generous donation from Corus Entertainment.

A longtime supporter of Mohawk College, Corus has stepped forward to support students who excel academically in the college’s Broadcasting Radio and Journalism program.

“As a proud Canadian broadcaster, the provision of quality local and national news is one of the most important things we do,” says Doug Murphy, President and CEO of Corus Entertainment. “At a time when truth and facts matter more than ever, it’s a privilege to support the next generation of journalism through this gift to Mohawk College.”

The new $1000 Global News Scholarships will be awarded to four students in the program each year over the next five years.

“We are grateful to Corus Entertainment for its generous support,” says Paul Armstrong, Vice-President, Academics at Mohawk College. “By honouring academic excellence and addressing the financial burdens that so often distract students from their training, Corus is helping aspiring young journalists better prepare for work in the field.”

Mohawk Radio Broadcasting students work with industry professionals and gain hands-on practical experience on Mohawk’s award-winning radio station, 101.5 The Hawk, and in the living lab, Mohawk’s Ignite Radio, igniteradio.ca.
