Did you know? CCCM supports Mohawk College students in the Supply Chain Management program
Since 2023, Mohawk College’s Centre for Climate Change Management (CCCM) has been working directly with Capstone students in the Supply Chain Management Program, by providing opportunities for those interested in solving the real-world climate change problems rooted in developing new supply chains.
To date, over 200 students have had the opportunity to explore topics related to market availability of non-fossil energy sources, transportation policy barriers, and how to locate and map potential transportation routes.
Mohawk Researcher and Manager of Industry Partnerships Emily Vis has been leading this initiative, working with faculty to create meaningful and impactful capstone projects for Mohawk students:
“Finding meaningful capstone projects can be a big undertaking for professors, and we’re happy to help support faculty in providing suitable projects that we know are relevant to students. Our relationship with the professors is very strong, so our ability to collaborate to ensure students get the best experience is very valuable.”
The CCCM is involved at every stage of the students’ capstone projects. From the initial discussions on their chosen topic, through the review of project outlines, students can reach out at any time to CCCM staff for support. During the final presentations, they receive additional feedback and encouragement from the Centre:
“The student’s ability to work on a real problem provides valuable insights into the needs of businesses while demonstrating the skills demand for the transition to a low carbon economy. Students directly apply their supply chain knowledge and critical thinking to an applied research problem that is valuable to both them and us as applied researchers.”
Mohawk College’s Centre for Climate Change Management works to accelerate the transition to a low carbon economy by fostering impactful collaborations that help partners identify how decarb aligns with their core business model, strategies, and goals. Applied Research supports sustainability-focused education at the college by providing real world examples and opportunities for decarb in action.
