Earth Day: Pollinator Garden Planting

Sustainability Pollinator Garden

Mohawk College has a new space dedicated to supporting bees, birds, butterflies and more! In celebration of Earth Day, on Monday, April 22nd, student volunteers and Green Team members planted a pollinator garden in the Community Garden space. This new garden is home to 55 native plants including Purple Coneflower, Black-eyed Susan and Prairie Smoke. These plants will grow to provide pollinator habitat, food and support overall biodiversity.

Through ongoing initiatives to create, maintain and improve pollinator habitats, Mohawk College has maintained its Bee City Campus designation since 2019. This new garden supports Mohawk’s climate action commitments by providing students with a sustainable learning opportunity and a new space for essential pollinators. This project was funded by Pollinator Partnership Canada through Bee City Canada.
