Everyday Heroes for January 2018

For helping to set and balance multi-million dollar budgets, Financial Planning Analyst Zoe Johnson (right) is a Mohawk College Everyday Hero. Zoe provides budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis to colleagues working in six departments while also managing the budget and forecast for college-wide full-time and corporate HR-related costs. A consummate professional, Zoe can always be counted on in meetings to know the numbers and bring a welcome sense of humour. Zoe was presented with her Everyday Hero Award during the farewell party for outgoing Corporate Services VP Deborah Brown. For keeping the college wired to the Internet during a time of record-setting construction and renovation projects, Bob Mahood is a Mohawk Everyday Hero. A technician with Bell Technical Solutions, Bob installs fibre optic cables, network connections and Wi-Fi in computer labs, classrooms, common areas and offices across all three of Mohawk's campuses. Bob, who's at work early mornings, late evenings, weekends and holidays, can be counted on to stop what he's doing to help wayward students find their way to class. Bob received his award during the farewell party for Mohawk's outgoing Corporate Services VP Deborah Brown. For always staying cool under pressure and providing outstanding around-the-clock IT and audiovisual support for events, announcements and meetings both on and off campus, Audiovisual Technologist Carmine De Luca is a Mohawk College Everyday Hero. Carm also installs and supports technology in classrooms at all three Mohawk campuses. Outgoing VP Corporate Services Deborah Brown presented Carm with his award during her farewell party. For her superlative work in researching, developing and reviewing policies and procedures for colleagues from across the college, Jessica Japcevich (right) is a Mohawk College Everyday Hero. Along with her policy work, Jessica helps with insurance needs and legal issues, risk management and business continuity and serves on 11 committees as Mohawk's Corporate Policy and Risk Management Analyst. A lifelong learner, Jessica has earned a degree in communications from Brock and a certificate in human resources management from Mohawk, achieved her Canadian Risk Management designation and is currently working on a certificate in privacy law from Ryerson. Professor Katie George is a Mohawk College Everyday Hero for consistently earning high marks from students and praise from colleagues for her poise and professionalism. A valued faculty member in Liberal Studies for the past decade, Katie shares her wealth of knowledge and clinical experience in the field of brain injury with students in her psychology courses and with other faculty. In addition to teaching at Mohawk, Katie works part-time as an advanced rehabilitation therapist in the Acquired Brain Injury Community Service Program at the Hamilton General Hospital while also raising a young family.
