Explore the Materials Testing Lab at Mohawk College

Mohawk College’s Construction Materials Laboratory has been recognized by the Canadian Council of Independent Laboratories (CCIL) as an exemplar of the industry standard for laboratories. A CCIL certification gives students the confidence in knowing that the laboratory they’re learning and working in is providing high-quality training that reflects the environment of their future workplace.

A CCIL certification also signifies to employers that students are being properly prepared for the current needs of the industry. In the lab, students work with the same equipment and materials they will be handling in the workplace. Students also familiarize themselves with the procedures that will be performed in the workplace, as well as the key concepts and foundational knowledge required to understand every aspect of their work.

Mohawk College’s Construction Materials Laboratory is subject to rigorous examination and auditing to ensure that it is meeting industry standards. The laboratory itself is audited every two years, with the faculty being evaluated every five years. These frequent audits ensure that the laboratory is not only meeting safety standards but is also matching the needs of the industry in terms of education and research.
