Facilities Services Update & Reminders - December 2022
The health and safety of everyone on campus are our number one priority. With the snowfalls around the corner, Mohawk College Facility Services is prepared to clear, salt and sand walkways, stairs, ramps, outside entrances, and fire exit doors of snow and ice. Facility Services shares this responsibility with Snow Removal Contractors. They will begin in the early hours to plow parking lots and sidewalks and salt and sand the parking lot before the start of the school day. Please use caution when walking or driving on campus as it may be slippery.
Sign up for Mohawk’s SAM (Security Alert Messenger) service to get campus snow closure alerts on your mobile phone. SAM uses text messages, social media, the college website, and email to inform students and employees that the college is closed. SAM is also used for lockdowns and other emergencies that require rapid communication with the college community.
Global Temperature Set Points
As part of Mohawks Strategic Plan, Facility Services continues to make a measurable impact on climate change. To do this, we have created Global Temperature Set Points (GTSP) for our Campus Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioner (HVAC) system to decrease our carbon footprint. GTSP space temperatures will be targeted at 21° C through the heating season and 24° C through the cooling season during occupied hours.
Facility Maintenance Requests
If you experience any of the following problems:
- Classroom or office temperature extremes
- Air quality issues regarding airflow, stuffiness, or odours
- Plumbing or electrical problems
- Water leaking into the area
- Housekeeping requests for room cleanliness or absence of chalk
- Set up for convocations, exams, office moves, and relocation of programs
