From Seed to Shelf

Deconstruct the myths about fair trade coffee.

CTLI Seed to Shelf

Many of us wake up every day to a hot cup of coffee. But where does it come from? How is it produced? Who grows it and what is life like for the world’s coffee farmers? 8 Mohawk College employees travelled to Guatemala in February 2024 to tackle these very questions by following a coffee bean from seed to shelf. We want to share what we learned about fair trade vs. direct trade coffee and what we can all do to help to contribute to a more just coffee industry.

Location: Indigenous Circle Space (I101)

Enjoy some coffee straight from Guatemala while we share our experience with Seed to Shelf on June 19 from 12-1pm. We will also provide an opportunity to order some direct trade coffee from De La Gente in Antigua, Guatemala at the session. If you cannot attend the session, but would like to order some coffee, please contact Ashley Husack at Ashley.husack@mohawkcollege.ca or Kelley Hoyt at Kelley.hoyt@mohawkcollege.ca
