Accessible Learning Services and EDI Office encourage you to participate in National AccessAbility Week with us!
National AccessAbility Week is an annual event, and this year it began on May 26, 2024. It is a time to celebrate the contributions of Canadians with disabilities, to promote accessibility and inclusion across Canada, and to recognize the efforts of communities and workplaces that are removing barriers for individuals with disabilities.

What is CCDI?
- Launched in 2022, CCDI is an annual milestone event that kick-starts National AccessAbility Week (NAAW) celebrations across Canada.
- The event provides an opportunity to bring together persons with disabilities, disability organizations, public and private sector organizations, employers, innovators and thought leaders to exchange ideas and ground-breaking insights to help shape accessible and inclusively designed communities and workplaces across Canada.
- CCDI 2022 and 2023 generated significant interest with more than 5,000 registrants.
- CCDI is Accessible Canada Directorate of Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) initiative.

The theme for the event is Forward Together: Accessibility and Inclusion for All.
This year CCDI will mark an important milestone as the event coincides with the 5th year of the coming into force of the Accessible Canada Act. The event will feature three panel discussions, exploring progress to date on the implementation of the Act as well as the two priority areas of the ‘built environment’ and ‘employment’.
To ensure everyone has an opportunity to attend and participate event will be as accessible as possible. That is why it will take place over Zoom, which is compliant with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, version 2.1, Level AA. The event will provide English, French, American Sign Language (ASL) and Langue des signes québécoise (LSQ) interpretation as well as English and French captioning. Registrants will also be able to access the event through a call-in option.
Red Shirt Day is May 29
As part of National AccessAbility Week, we encourage you to wear red on Red Shirt Day to show your support for individuals living with disabilities, and to express your commitment to supporting accessibility and inclusion efforts in Canada. This year, Red Shirt Day is May 29, 2024. We encourage you to share a picture of yourself in red and use the hashtags #RedShirtDay #RedForAccessAbility

We look forward to engaging discussion where you can share your thoughts and suggestions on next step actions that will help us move forward toward achieving a truly inclusive and accessible environment. You will be able to access information on college accessibility resources, current initiatives and some accessibility work that has been accomplished across the College.

To mark National AccessAbility Week, the EDI Office in partnership with Tru Faces will be hosting a virtual session focusing on providing tangible ways to make events and activities more accessible to those with disabilities. It uses lived experiences as well as reflection on your own practices to help you gain better insight.
