Guest Lecture - The Generations of Digital Governance: From Typewriters to Artificial Intelligence

Renowned researcher and author Yannis Charalabidis is visiting Mohawk College Fennell Campus on May 7 to provide a free lecture about digital governance and artificial intelligence, hosted by the McKeil School of Business and the Analytics Lab. Mohawk College faculty and staff are welcome to attend.

Professor Charalabidis is a full professor of Digital Governance in the Department of Information and Communication Systems Engineering, University of the Aegean (Samos, Greece) and the founding director of the Greek Digital Governance Research Centre, coordinating policy-making, research, and application projects for governments and enterprises worldwide. He has been considered one of the “100 most influential people in Digital Government” and ranked as the 6th most prolific author in the area of Digital Government.

This lecture, The Generations of Digital Governance: From Typewriters to Artificial Intelligence, introduces the Digital Governance research and practice domain. A historical and technology timeline provides the definitions and describes the main objectives of the three generations of Digital Governance: from digital public services to open and collaborative governance to evidence-based decision-making. The lecturer will analyze the use of Artificial Intelligence in the public sector and offer insights on the latest European Union AI Act, the framework which aims at regulating Artificial Intelligence for ethical use in Europe and beyond.
