Holiday Closure Contest Encourages Energy Savings
Mohawk College’s Energy Conservation Committee is encouraging energy savings over the holiday closure (noon on December 24th - January 1st) through a college-wide contest.
College employees are being asked to help conserve energy, money and GHG emissions over the break by working together to shut off all non-essential lights and equipment. During the closure, the college will also be lowering the heat in unoccupied areas.
Colleagues who choose to submit a completed checklist of energy-saving activities before the closure will be entered into a draw. The Mohawk Sustainability Team will plant one tree for every member of the winning team.
It’s estimated that energy usage can be reduced by up to 20% through these conservation measures, for an estimated savings of up to $40,000.
Have a safe and happy holiday season!
