July 11 & 12: Fennell and Stoney Creek Power Shutdown and Campus Closure

Every year, Facility Services completes a planned electrical shutdown of electrical substations under a preventative maintenance plan for our campuses.

This year, Facility Services is planning the annual electrical maintenance from 10 pm on Friday, July 10 to 6 am on Monday, July 13 at the Fennell and Stoney Creek Campuses.

Details of shutdown:

  1. The power shutdown will impact Fennell Campus and Stoney Creek.
  2. There will be very limited power; therefore, both campuses will be closed during the shutdown, with no access for all employees and students.
  3. The emergency generators at the campus will run, providing power to essential emergency lighting and devices.
  4. Only devices/equipment plugged into a receptacle connected to emergency generator power will be live.
    • These receptacles will be labelled accordingly. If you have sensitive equipment and are unsure if the receptacle is on emergency generator power, please contact maintenance@mohawkcollege.ca, and they will follow up with your inquiry.
    • As several electrical circuits will be without power, it is recommended that staff unplug all electronic devices before each shutdown weekend and clear out all fridges.

If you have any questions, please contact Paul Dalgleish, Manager, Buildings, Grounds & Housekeeping Operations, paul.dalgleish.@mohawkcollege.ca, or Ed Cipriani, Senior Director, Facilities & Security Services ed.cipriani@mohawkcollege.ca, and they will be happy to assist.

IT impacted services:

All IT systems, including VPN access, will be unavailable with the exception of mohawkcollege.ca, MyCanvas, Microsoft 365 (Teams, Email, OneDrive, SharePoint).

Please save all opened files on your on-campus computer or network shared drive by the end of the day on Friday, July 10, 2026.

Please contact Steve Sousa, Manager, IT Infrastructure, steve.sousa2@mohawkcollege.ca if you require any additional IT related information.

After the power shutdown:

If you have any concerns with power to your devices or equipment following the power shutdown, please contact maintenance at maintenance@mohawkcollege.ca.

Preventive maintenance is important in keeping Mohawk College's electrical infrastructure up and running smoothly.

Facility Services understands that being without power is difficult, and apologizes in advance for any inconvenience the outage may cause.
