Leaders Spotlight on Learning

This new playlist provides an opportunity for leaders within Mohawk College to showcase a specific training course from the over 11,000+ courses on Working at Mohawk featuring LinkedIn Learning, Cornerstone Content Anytime, and other providers of asynchronous learning. All courses are under 1 hour in length and focus on ‘hot topics’. There are many curated playlists already available on Working at Mohawk and you can even make your own!

Neil-Culp-Head-ShotNeil Culp, Director, Employee Relations & Talent Acquisition, spends most of his time at work in discussions with others.  Neil’s role is to act as an advisor to the College leadership team on a wide variety of HR, Labour and employment issues.  And as you can imagine, those discussions can get challenging at times.  So, the skills of communication, influence, and conflict management are central to what he does every single day.

“Throughout my career, I have learned from amazing leaders.  The distinguishing factor between amazing leaders and those that are just okay, in my view, is the leader’s ability to communicate effectively.  To help people understand the realities of situation, to build consensus around action, to inspire those around them to give their best, and where needed to effectively deal with challenging issues and situation. “- Neil

The 57-minute course on Centered Communication provides learners with a great overview of the core skills and behaviours that lead to truly effective communication.  The course is really enjoyable and has some great take-aways, and reminders depending on where you are in your learning.  The core learning of the course though, is to ensure you are communicating with the right intent at every stage of your discussions.

Follow this playlist for notifications as new course spotlights from Mohawk leaders are added monthly!
