Makerspace and CSEP Success

Meet Abigail Sarfo, an international student from Ghana. 

Abigail is part of Mohawk College's Campus Student Employment Program (CSEP).

With a bachelor's degree in political studies and social work from Ghana, Abigail came to Mohawk College to take the Public Relations - Corporate Communications program. This program at Mohawk aimed to garner some hard skills that could give her a competitive edge and a stable career. With just four weeks left of study, Abigail is excited to say her expectations are beyond being met.

 "Apart from incredible classroom studies, I have had various worthwhile experiential learning opportunities through my program.  One of these has been a field placement with the Communications Team in the Office of the President of the College. In this placement, I have been trusted with opportunities to meet and interview incredible students, faculty, and experts, write articles on diverse subjects, and participate in the production of video stories like the one on the Makerspace.

These have enriched my knowledge in the PR industry, giving me an excellent network of people and, most importantly, the confidence that the skills I have learned in class and this placement set me apart as a trained professional with credible experience.

This has been an experience unlike any other. The support, friendship, and knowledge I have experienced from the top professionals I have worked with in this placement have made this a genuinely impactful one. I appreciate them and have their names on my bragging card as life changers.

Through these experiences, I have been set up for a successful career in Public Relations. "
