As we adjust to new ways of working and learning in a post-pandemic world, it is normal for people to have questions or concerns about how longer-term changes to working arrangements will impact their work and the relationships they have with their colleagues and the broader college community.

Creating an environment where employees feel comfortable and safe sharing their thoughts and opinions is critical to establishing a culture that supports and promotes psychological safety. This October, all Mohawk College employees are invited to attend a special keynote address on Psychological Safety in the Workplace by Dr. Bill Howatt, founder and CEO of Howatt HR. One of Canada’s leading experts in workplace psychological health and safety, Dr. Howatt has published more than 50 books, including The Globe and Mail bestseller, The Cure for Loneliness, and Stop Hiding and Start Living.

To ensure employees have an opportunity to hear from Dr. Howatt, there will be two sessions on the following dates:

·         Wednesday, October 19 from 10 a.m. to 11:15

·         Wednesday, October 26 from 10 a.m. to 11:15

Whether it is skill development, shifting mindsets, embracing risk-taking alongside innovation, building a culture of psychological safety, or promoting flexible work arrangements, there are many supports and resources available to help employees thrive in an evolving workplace.

Employees are encouraged to take advantage of the many workshops that are organized throughout the year on topics such as Leading Hybrid Teams, Leading Teams through Change, Working in a Hybrid Environment, and Growth Mindset.

Employees are also encouraged to visit the Future of Work page on MyMohawk where they will find the following resources:

•       Links to the updated Flexible Work Arrangements policy, supporting documents, and resources for employees and managers,

•       Detailed FAQs,

•       Recommended playlist from Professional Development,

•       Summary of the Employee Pulse Survey Results from 2020 and 2022,

•       Implementation schedule,

•       And, featured news and updates from the college.

Determining what a flexible work environment will look like at Mohawk and creating a culture that supports flexibility is a strategic priority for the college as we look to establish a sustainable, long-term solution beyond the COVID-19 pandemic.

If you have any questions about the process outlined above, please direct them to your manager. Managers who have questions about the assessments or agreements are reminded to contact their area’s Human Resources Consultant for assistance.
