Marketing Matters - January 2026

MarketingMatters275x125

If your document or webpage includes an image with a caption, it's very tempting to simply repeat the caption for the image's alt text. Don't do it! All users have access to the caption (assuming it hasn't been added to a Word document using a text box, but that's a post for another day) but only visual readers have access to the image–unless you add helpful alt text. Is there information in the image that readers need? Is there something in the image that is not included in the caption or the surrounding text? If the answer to either question is yes, then that's what should be in your alt text. Visit the college library’s accessible resources webpage to learn more.
