Mobile Email App Update

Action Required by March 1, 2026

Microsoft is making a security and reliability update to Exchange Online (Microsoft 365 email) that may affect a number of mobile devices using older email apps.

What’s changing

Starting March 1, 2026, devices and apps using Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) versions lower than 16.1 will no longer be able to connect to Mohawk College email in Exchange Online.

Who may be impacted

You may be impacted if you access your Mohawk email on a phone/tablet using a built-in email app (for example, some “Mail” apps) or another email app that connects using Exchange ActiveSync.

Not impacted: Outlook for iOS/Android (Outlook Mobile) is not affected.

What you need to do (recommended)

Before March 1, 2026:

  1. Update your phone/tablet operating system (iOS/Android) to the latest version available
  2. Update your email app (App Store / Google Play / Galaxy Store)
  3. If you continue to have issues, switch to Outlook Mobile (recommended and supported)

Version guidance (quick reference)

  • iPhone/iPad (Apple Mail): iOS/iPadOS 10 or newer (and fully updated) should be compatible.
  • Android (Samsung/Pixel/others): Compatibility depends on the email app—ensure your mail app (e.g., Gmail or Samsung Mail) is fully updated from the Play Store/Galaxy Store.
  • Not sure? Install/use Outlook Mobile (recommended) — it is not impacted by this Exchange ActiveSync change.

What happens if you don’t update

After March 1, 2026, affected devices/apps will:

  • Stop syncing Mohawk email (mail, calendar, contacts)
  • Show sign-in/sync errors until the device/app is updated or replaced
