Mohawk Graduate Kathy Lerette receives Premier's Award

Mohawk College graduate Kathy Lerette ('97) was among eight college graduates recently honoured by the Ontario Government for contributing to the growth of Ontario's economy and improving lives.

The annual Premier's Awards for College Graduates recognizes graduates from seven categories who have made outstanding social and economic contributions to society. There two winners in the Health Sciences category for 2019.

"The Premier's Awards honour college graduates of our world-renowned colleges who have the knowledge, skills and experience we need to help grow Ontario's economy," said Premier Ford. "I'd like to congratulate these eight bright and talented graduates and thank them for their incredible contributions to their local communities, our province and beyond."

Lerette, Senior Vice President, Business Transformation, Alectra Utilities, is a 2019 Mohawk College Distinguished Fellow and 2019 Alumnus of Distinction. She is overseeing the largest merger ever in Canada's electrical utility sector, uses her impressive career to inspire other women and girls to create and chase dream jobs in the science, technology, engineering and math sectors. Throughout her 37-year career, she has been a pioneer in the male-dominated energy industry and as she has taken on progressively more challenging and important roles, she has worked tirelessly to see the ranks of women grow behind her. Lerette credits her Mohawk College education for giving her the technical foundation that has powered her career.
