Mohawk College Board of Governors Staff Elections Notice

The Board of Governors Staff Elections are currently in progress. Administrative, Academic, and Support Staff positions are included in this election cycle.
Voting will commence on Monday, March 23 at 8:30 am, and will conclude on Wednesday, March 25 at 4:30 pm.
Employees are encouraged to review the profiles of all candidates by visiting the BOG Election Channel on MyMohawk.

Sabu Joseph
Dear Faculty,
I am a candidate in the upcoming election for the Faculty Representative position on Mohawk College’s Board of Governors.
Your vote is important. The Board of Governors makes strategic decisions that shape the future of our college. While one person cannot influence every decision, I am committed to ensuring that our collective voice is heard at the Board table.
Since joining Mohawk College in 1999 as a full-time faculty member in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, I have contributed to the college community in several roles, including Co-Chair of the Health & Safety Committee, Union Steward, Program Coordinator, Acting Associate Dean, and member of several other committees and college initiatives. Throughout my career, I have also had the privilege of mentoring many colleagues and students.
We may have met at various meetings, events, or activities across the college. During the campaign period, I will try to visit as many colleagues as possible in person to introduce myself and request your support. In case I miss you, you can find more information in my candidate profile through the Board of Governors Election channel under the Employee tab on MyMohawk.
I have also been actively contributing to the Hamilton community for over 21 years as a community tax preparer, assisting low income individuals and families with filing their tax. Also, I have served as a board member for community organizations and sports clubs, supporting local initiatives focused on community development and youth engagement. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I served as Co-Chair of a committee of community organizations that organized support initiatives for mohawk students and community to coordinate resources and assistance to help individuals navigate the social and economic challenges created by the pandemic.
Voting will take place electronically from March 23–25 through the Board of Governors Election channel on MyMohawk.

Dear Colleagues,
I would like to share that I am a candidate for the Academic Staff Representative position on the Mohawk College Board of Governors. This candidacy is both an honour and a responsibility for me, and I would be grateful for your consideration and support.
Working in a service department has allowed me to collaborate with programs across Engineering Technology, Health Sciences, Business, Skilled Trades, Liberal Arts, and several degree programs. This experience has given me a broad perspective on how institutional decisions influence curriculum, enrollment planning, faculty work, and student success across the College and across our academic community of professors, instructors, counsellors, and librarians.
This is a period of significant change across our sector, making thoughtful governance, open communication, and strong academic representation especially important. If elected, I will work to ensure that the perspectives and expertise of all academic staff are clearly represented in Board discussions and decisions that shape the future of the College. There are four candidates for this position, and information about each of us is available in the voting portal (MyMohawk/Employee). Messages from Administrative Candidates
Heather Lowry
Thank you for considering my application to serve as the Administrative Staff Representative on the College’s Board of Governors.
As Associate Dean, Curriculum, Educator Development & Academic Technology in the Centre for Teaching & Learning Innovation (CTLI), our daily work involves collaborating with faculty, staff, and academic leaders to advance high quality, workforce aligned curriculum and educator development. Our team also supports all faculty groups and is creating an Educator Development Framework informed by Mohawk College faculty and aligned with leading provincial, national, and global practices.
In addition to the areas of focus above, I oversee academic technology, including our learning management system, Digital Creativity Centre, and Makerspace— spaces that foster digital skill development for students and employees alike. Our team provides accessible support for the educational technologies that underpin meaningful learning experiences.
As chair of the AI Governance Committee, I collaborate with colleagues across the College to identify the opportunities and risks of artificial intelligence in teaching and learning.
Before joining Mohawk in 2024, I spent 25 years in Ontario’s college system, progressing from part time faculty to full time teaching, program coordination, and academic leadership. Since becoming an associate dean in 2012, I have managed numerous programs, supported hundreds of faculty, launched multiple credentials, and championed inclusive, ethical digital fluency. I completed my doctorate in higher education leadership in 2025, further strengthening my commitment to and capacity for supporting inclusive, accessible, and flexible learning.
My experiences at Mohawk and across the sector reinforce my belief in the vital role Ontario’s colleges play in delivering accessible, industry aligned education. While our sector faces significant challenges, I am confident in our collective capacity to move forward as a strong, diverse learning community. I would be honoured to work with our academic teams and Board of Governors to help shape our future.

I am pleased to be a candidate for the Administrative Staff representative position on Mohawk College’s Board of Governors.
As Manager of Institutional Research, I work with employees across the College to conduct research and analysis that support program reviews, labour market insights, student success initiatives, and institutional priorities. Through this work, I collaborate with many areas of the College and contribute to evidence-informed decision-making.
In addition to my experience at Mohawk, I bring over 20 years of leadership experience across post-secondary education, banking, and telecommunications, including experience in audit, risk management, and analytics. These perspectives support thoughtful governance, accountability, and strategic decision-making.
If elected, I would be committed to representing the perspectives of our Administrative employee group and contributing to informed, balanced discussions that support Mohawk’s students, employees, and community.

Patrick Angielczyk
Dear colleagues,
Last week, I introduced myself as a candidate for the Support Staff representative position on Mohawk College’s Board of Governors, emphasizing my commitment to listening and thoughtful representation.
Since 2017, I’ve worked as an Audio Visual Technologist, collaborating with teams across departments to ensure our students and faculty have the technology they rely on campus wide. Beyond my role, I’ve represented colleagues as a steward with OPSEU Local 241 and as a delegate to the Hamilton District Labour Council. I’ve also been part of initiatives like the United Way campaign and Corporate Services Day planning committees. I also serve as Chair of the AVIXA Rising Professionals Council, the global association for the professional audio-visual industry where I support initiatives focused on education, mentorship and the development of future professionals.
These experiences have strengthened my belief that support staff perspectives are vital in shaping thoughtful and balanced decisions, and that investing in people through education, mentorship and collaboration is key to long-term success.
If elected, I will represent our colleagues with professionalism, transparency and that same commitment to listening.

Patrick Angielczyk
Steven Mikalauskas
Steven Mikalauskas has worked at Mohawk College for 14 years in a variety of progressively evolving roles and currently serves as Team Lead – Operations Specialist and Station Manager for INDI 101.5, Mohawk’s FM Community Radio Station.
Throughout his time at Mohawk, Steven has supported programs across the School of Creative Industries, contributing to daily operations, technical services, and student learning environments. He has also supported the growth and development of newer programs, including Game – Design and Esports Administration, as these areas expanded.
Beyond his operational role, Steven has remained actively involved in College life through open houses, community projects, partnerships, and various committees. He previously served a two-year term on the President’s Advisory Council, spent seven years on the Joint Health and Safety Committee, and held approximately eight years of union leadership within OPSEU Local 241, serving as Steward, Chief Steward, and Vice President.
Steven is running for the Support Staff Representative position on the Board of Governors because he believes support staff perspectives are an important part of the College’s success. He brings a practical, solutions-focused approach grounded in collaboration, accountability, and respectful advocacy, with a strong commitment to listening and representing support staff thoughtfully in broader College decision-making.
