Mohawk College faculty member named one of Hamilton’s 40 Under Forty
This October, Mohawk College faculty member Andrew Fedurko will be recognized as one of Hamilton’s 40 Under Forty Business Achievement Award recipients by Business Link Media Group.
The annual awards celebrate emerging leaders who are making significant contributions to Hamilton through their professional accomplishments and community involvement.
For Andrew, the recognition reflects the connections he has developed since joining Mohawk College in 2020.
“Hamilton has become a major part of my life and career over the last several years,” he said. “I am not originally from Hamilton, so there is something meaningful about being recognized by a community that I came into professionally and have become much more connected to.”
Andrew joined Mohawk as a part-time faculty member and program coordinator for the International Business Management program, later working with the Global Business Management program. During his nearly seven years at the college, he has contributed to curriculum and program development, formed industry partnerships, taught in several areas of business and helped develop Mohawk College’s Esports Administration program.
“The most rewarding part is creating opportunities for students and then seeing what they do with them,” Andrew said. “Sometimes that starts with something small, like an industry introduction, a new partnership, an event or giving students responsibility for something real rather than simulated. Then you get to watch them take ownership of it and turn those experiences into connections and jobs.”
Born and raised in Mimico, Ontario, Andrew credits his early involvement in competitive sports with helping to shape his leadership style and career. He captained basketball teams at both the club and high school levels and also competed in baseball, volleyball, rugby and track and field.
His professional path has been equally varied. In the early 2010s, Andrew travelled throughout Canada with an antiques roadshow, appraising valuables and managing business operations. He later worked as a player agent, teacher and private high school vice-principal before teaching and coaching at the Ontario Hockey Academy in Cornwall.
He subsequently earned a Master of Business Administration in Project Management, a Master of Health Administration and a Doctor of Business Administration in Strategic Management.
Andrew has brought a combination of education, sport and business experience to his work at Mohawk, including community initiatives such as Hockey Helps the Homeless. Mohawk College students have supported the event alongside Andrew for the past two years.
When asked to describe what it feels like to receive this award, Andrew shared that he sees it as an encouragement to keep going.
In addition to Andrew’s award, seven Mohawk College alumni will also be receiving 40 under Forty awards at the celebration to be held on October 29.
