Mohawk welcomes students from the United Arab Emirates
In June, Mohawk welcomed students and faculty from Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) in the United Arab Emirates.
Supported by Mohawk International, this short-term study program brought a group of 20 senior Engineering students studying in programs ranging from Aviation, Chemical, Civil, Mechanical, and Mechatronics, along with three chaperones to Mohawk College for an academic and cultural exchange.
Throughout their stay, students experienced a busy itinerary packed with on-campus experiences including guided campus tours, hands-on academic workshops, and engaging sessions with Mohawk faculty. Students also had the chance to explore the broader Hamilton community with visits to museums and our post-secondary partner, McMaster University.
“Short-term programs like this one bring the world to our doorstep, enriching our campus with cultural exchange, new perspectives, and shared learning,” shared Thea Laidman, Associate Vice President, International and Partnership. “They create transformative experiences for visiting students while also opening up valuable opportunities for our faculty and staff to collaborate globally. Every program we host reinforces our reputation as a welcoming, world-class institution committed to excellence in international education.” As we continue to welcome international partners to our campus, these programs serve as a powerful reminder of the mutual learning, connection and inspiration that global education makes possible.
One of the standout experiences of the visit was the opportunity to connect with local industry leaders, including the Hamilton Oshawa Port Authority, KF Aerospace and the Niagara Parks Power Station. These site visits gave students a valuable glimpse into how their classroom knowledge translates into real-world careers and offered insight into future professional pathways.
Dr. Walid Zgallai, Executive Dean - Faculty of Engineering Technology and Science at Higher Colleges of Technology, shared his appreciation for the warm welcome and enriching experience extended to the HCT students, faculty and staff. Dr. Zgallai commented that the opportunity “provided an outstanding platform for experiential learning and cultural exchange.”
These future engineers brought energy, curiosity and enthusiasm to every activity.
