Mohawk welcoming international students back to Canada
The following information was shared with international students and applicants on Tuesday, October 20, 2020, following the beginning of the federal government's amended travel restrictions.
Canada will soon be accepting international students again and Mohawk College is looking forward to welcoming you to our college.
Please note that students who are coming to Canada will only be allowed to travel to Canada to attend colleges that have had their COVID-19 Readiness Plans processed and approved by the Government of Canada. Mohawk expects to be included on the list of designated colleges very soon, once government backlogs are cleared. Our Readiness Plan clearly demonstrates Mohawk’s commitment to ensuring the health and safety of its students by supporting all students from pre-arrival through quarantine and through the course of their studies.
While we await the formal approvals, it is important for you to know that you can continue to study from overseas or make your commitment to start your semester with Mohawk in January. Please do not make any travel arrangements until you have formally heard from the college about your ability to travel to Canada. We will provide this information as soon as the approval is granted.
While borders are opening, it is important to understand that most courses at colleges and universities across Canada continue to be offered through a combination of virtual and hybrid learning. For the January semester, Mohawk is only offering in-person learning for courses where students must be in class for required simulations, labs and assessments. All other learning will be virtual. Once our Readiness Plan is approved, you may travel to Canada if your program is hybrid or virtual delivery and if you have a valid study permit.
We recognize that you may be anxious while you wait for updates and confirmation from Mohawk so that you can make your travel plans. We are dedicated to assisting you in this process and we remain committed to helping you to fulfill your educational plans in Canada.
We know that it is difficult to remain patient under these circumstances. We will continue to regularly update you through our website, FAQs, social media and direct e-mails with all of the relevant information. We look forward to welcoming you to our campus very soon.
