Mohawk Mountaineers softball has earned an OCAA playoff spot for the first time since 2017 after finishing the 2023 season with four consecutive wins.

It is also the first time since 2010 that softball along with both Mohawk soccer teams have made provincial playoffs.

This week Mohawk softball defeated both the Sheridan Bruins and Fanshawe Falcons in doubleheader matchups. Mohawk won 6-1 and 9-6 over the Bruins and then picked up 11-6 and 5-4 victories over the Falcons.


On the pitch, it was a tough week for both soccer teams. The women tied Sheridan 0-0 and lost to the Conestoga Condors 2-1, while the men lost 2-0 to both the Bruins and Condors.


Athletes of the Week


Chantal Tripp (Brampton, ON)

Tripp was fantastic on the mound for Mohawk, pitching 16 innings over three games, allowing only four runs and striking out 17. In game one of a doubleheader versus the Seneca Sting, Tripp started and pitched into extras, going eight innings, only allowing three runs and striking out a career-high 12.

In the doubleheader this past Friday versus the Conestoga Condors, Tripp pitched a complete-game for the win in game one and picked up a save in game two.

Offensively in four games she batted five-for-13 (.384 average) with runs and a run batted in.


Danika Millen (Milton, ON)

Millen over the course of the four games batted seven-for-15 (.466 average) with one run and four runs batted in. Her best game came on the backend of the doubleheader versus the Condors, picking up two hits and driving home three.


Upcoming Game Schedule



Oct. 13 – Both soccer teams will wrap-up their regular season play in Welland, ON when they play the Niagara Knights. The women kick-off at 6 p.m. and the men follow at 8 p.m.

Oct. 18 – OCAA playoffs kicks off with the women playing at home and the men taking to the road. Mohawk women will be their opening playoff match at St. John Henry Newman at 7 p.m. with the opponent still to be determined. The men’s road game is also still to be determined.



Oct. 19-21 – OCAA Softball Championship will be hosted by Humber College.
