Mountaineers varsity highlights – February 10, 2023
The banner season is in full effect, with conference playoffs just around the season.
The first OCAA Championship tournament began prior to the publication of this recap, with Mohawk Mountaineers men’s and mixed doubles curling participating in the provincial championship in Welland.
The eighth nationally ranked men’s basketball team is locked into a playoff spot and guaranteed to host an OCAA crossover playoff game on Feb. 25, after defeating the Sheridan Bruins 104-101 in overtime. The Mountaineers still have three games remaining in the season before playoffs begin and they hold the top spot in the OCAA West division, at 13-2.
With two games remaining, the Mountaineers women’s basketball team also clinched a playoff spot this past week, after winning 46-42 over the Sheridan Bruins.
Both women’s and men’s volleyball teams picked up crucial victories over the Niagara Knights and have been locked into a playoff spot for quite some time. However, they will continue to fight for a possible home playoff game heading into the final weekend of regular season play.
