National 211 Day – Connecting communities in a time of need

February 11 is 211 day. Remember you are not alone.

As February 11th approaches, United Way Halton & Hamilton is proud to recognize National 211 Day, highlighting the importance of the  211 service as a lifeline for individuals and families seeking help during these challenging times.

United Way Centraide Canada is a proud founding partner of 211 in Canada, providing funding and support for the program, and advocating to make its services available to all communities across Canada. 211 is the largest national database of community services and government programs in Canada. It plays a critical role in helping people navigate available local resources.

This year has been especially difficult for so many in our community. We’ve seen a rising cost of living, housing insecurity, and mental health challenges leaving more people than ever in need of support. 211 is here to bridge the gap, providing a free and confidential helpline that connects individuals to vital social services. Whether someone is struggling to find a shelter, access food support, or navigate government assistance programs, help is just three numbers away.

“We’ve seen firsthand how the demand for social services has grown,” said Brad Park, President and CEO of United Way Halton & Hamilton. “211 is an essential tool for helping individuals and families navigate these overwhelming challenges. It connects people to the resources they need, offering hope and guidance during some of the hardest times of their lives.”

What is 211?

211 is a free, confidential service that connects people to critical social, government, and community supports. 211 acts as the front door to support, helping people navigate the complex network of government and community programs and services quickly to find what they need for their unique situation.

211 is accessible 365 days a year, by phone, text or online, and is available in over 150 languages. When you dial 2-1-1 or connect online, a trained professional will listen to you and help you find the right information and supports near you. Whether it’s connecting to mental health support, locating housing resources, or finding child care assistance, 211 provides a  trusted pathway to care.
