National Day of Action for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People

Annually, October 4, is recognized as the National Day of Action for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People (MMIWG2S). This is a day dedicated to raising awareness about the violence Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit individuals face, and encouraging people to support the 231 Calls to Justice outlined in the National Inquiry's Final Report.
On this day we acknowledge MMIWG2S relatives by wearing red.
Indigenous students and staff took time on Friday to honour the day. “We held them in our hearts as we walked around Fennell campus in reflection and prayer on October 4, arriving at the grove of trees near the residence where we placed our tobacco with good thoughts for our Indigenous relatives, before returning to Indigenous Student Centre.” - Elizabeth Gray, Indigenous Counsellor, Indigenous Student Services
We invite you to add October 4 to your calendars and consider each year how you might support this initiate and create awareness, whoever and wherever you are.
