New website to link companies to Mohawk-trained workforce
Mohawk College today launched a new website dedicated to helping regional businesses attract and retain skilled employees. The announcement was made during a Mohawk College employer engagement event, called Burlington Day, Innovation Through Partnership.
In response, in part, to the Red Tape Red Carpet Task Force report delivered in July to the City of Burlington, Mohawk College has created an employer website intended to help companies and organizations recruit and hire Mohawk College graduates, co-operative education students and students in other education streams. This initiative directly supports key activities to address concerns raised by employers as part of the Red Tape Red Carpet process, to develop a post-secondary attraction strategy for Burlington, bringing new programming, access to talent, and research and development opportunities for Burlington companies.
“The City of Burlington has been a valued Mohawk partner for many years and we are pleased to support the Red Tape Red Carpet initiative through this website, giving employers throughout this region access to our job-ready graduates,” says Paul Armstrong, Vice-President of Academics at Mohawk College. “We are committed to student success and graduate success. This website represents another pathway to meaningful employment for Mohawk students.”
Mohawk College’s new Industry and Employer website has been collaboratively designed to address the workforce development needs of local employers and industry partners. The site provides a one-stop shop for information and resources to: connect with students on campus; hire students and graduates; collaborate on applied research projects; develop strategic initiatives; and learn about applicable grants and funding for student employment.
“We are excited to be working with Mohawk College on this website project as an immediate response to the Red Tape Red Carpet Task Force report,” says Anita Cassidy, Acting Executive Director at Burlington Economic Development Corporation. “Local companies have had a voice in the creation of this website and we are confident it will effectively link Mohawk’s well-trained graduates with Burlington businesses and industries.”
Initially launched to Burlington businesses, the site will be extended to employers throughout the region later this fall. For more information on Burlington’s Red Tape Red Carpet Task Force and how it is making Burlington more open for business visit www.burlington.ca/RTRC.
