OCAA suspends Winter 2021 schedule for varsity athletics

The Ontario College Athletics Association (OCAA) and its members have made the decision to continue the suspension of the varsity schedule into the Winter 2021 semester. Sports directly affected by this decision at Mohawk include badminton, basketball, curling, volleyball and indoor soccer.

The OCAA made this decision in collaboration with its member institutions, including Mohawk College, to further reduce the potential exposure to COVID-19, and protect the health and safety of everyone involved in varsity sports, particularly our student athletes, coaches, athletic staff, and fans. The suspension also considers that most member institutions have adopted a hybrid model of academic delivery for 2020-2021 academic year to minimize the number of students and staff on campus.

“This is disappointing news to our athletes and coaches, and to the entire Mohawk community,” said Mohawk’s Chief Operating Officer, Paul Armstrong. “Varsity athletics is important to our identity as a college, and it is a great source of pride for our students, employees and alumni. We look forward to the day when our student athletes can return to the sports that mean so much to them. Until then, we are committed to supporting our student athletes and staff through these challenging times.”
