Recovery, innovation inspire new Mohawk strategic plan

New three-year plan aims to support an equitable, inclusive recovery through accessible education & workforce development

Mohawk College has launched a new three-year strategic plan focused on economic and workforce recovery, and addressing important social issues like Truth and Reconciliation, climate action, and equity, diversity and inclusion.

The Mohawk College Strategic Plan 2022-2025 focusses on strengthening the college’s ongoing commitments to leading in climate action; to advancing equity, diversity and inclusion; to addressing regional workforce skills gaps; and to removing barriers to education for everyone. The plan allows the college to move forward with ambitious goals, while emphasizing the need to be flexible to support recovery through innovation.

“The pandemic provided an opportunity to look at how we can do things differently. This strategic plan meets our short-term needs for recovery as a college and a community, and sets an innovative course for our future,” said Mohawk College President and CEO Ron J. McKerlie. “Our new plan is a compass, not a roadmap. It points the direction to our destination, but the route we take can be flexible, as we have learned through the pandemic.”

This strategic plan builds on a number of existing strengths of the college, with aspirations to achieve a number of objectives:

  • Meaningfully advance Truth and Reconciliation
  • Ensure Future Ready education, research, programs, services and experiences – for students, employees and our community
  • Be a place that honours, values and celebrates the whole of every person
  • Ensure access to education and reduce barriers for all
  • Lead in workforce development
  • Make a measurable impact on climate change

Traditionally, Mohawk has developed five-year strategic plans. This shorter three-year timeframe was chosen to accommodate the short-term needs for recovery at the college while still pursuing an innovative course for the future.

Strategic Plan 2022-2025 was developed over 10 months, in consultation with over 1,000 people throughout the college, as well as a wide variety of industry and community partners.
