Spectacular 2024 Diwali Festival Celebration

The highly anticipated annual Diwali Celebration returned to the McIntyre Performing Arts Centre on October 30, 2024.  Since its inception in 2017, Mohawk College has commemorated the “Festival of Lights” with students, staff, volunteers, and alumni, hosting one of the largest celebrations in the Greater Hamilton region. This year’s event, possibly the largest yet, saw over 600 attendees celebrate with their peers watching engaging performances from poetry and storytelling to soloists and rousing group performances of traditional dances.  

The Language and Culture Centre (LCC), alongside many volunteers and students, led the event this year, hosting auditions over the month of October. The event featured the amazing vibes of a record-breaking 19 performances by 35 talented students, including the Mohawk Dance Club. Adorned in vibrant colours, performers showcased captivating dances and songs. The audience was swept up in the electric energy, joining in with the dances and singing along to familiar songs. 

Following the Talent Show, attendees enjoyed a variety of treats, including samosas and pakoras, as well as sweets including jalebi and barfi. The day’s activities culminated in a Diwali dance party hosted by the MSA, fully embracing the Diwali spirit!
