Student-led bake sale in support of Guatemala trip

Got a sweet tooth? Support DIG!

DIG

On Wednesday, December 3, students will be hosting a bake sale from 11am to 1pm in the Cwing Lounge at Fennell campus.

They will also be loading baked goods on a cart and making classroom or office visits. Please contact Jela Clarke if you are interested in this option.

Support for the bake sale will be accepted in the form of cash donations at amount of your choice.

All proceeds will go to support a service learning trip to Guatemala that is occurring from February 16, 2026 to February 20, 2026. This service learning trip will involve students and faculty members from three programs offered in the Department of Allied Health — Recreation Therapy, Massage Therapy, and Autism and Behavioural Science.

You can also support this service learning trip by visiting the Mohawk Foundation and contributing to the team fundraising page: https://mohawkcollegefoundation.akaraisin.com/ui/DIG

Dream Invest Grow (DIG)

In Guatemala, students and faculty will collaborate with Dream Invest Grow (DIG), a humanitarian organization committed to breaking the cycle of poverty and malnutrition through sustainable community empowerment. DIG’s mission to provide a hand up, not a hand out, aligns seamlessly with Mohawk College’s values of social responsibility, applied learning, and community impact. Our students will not only be supporting local communities through hands-on projects, but also gaining invaluable real-world experience that will shape their academic and professional journeys.

One of the central efforts our students will contribute to is the smokeless stove program. This initiative replaces hazardous open-air cooking fires with woodburning stoves equipped with chimneys, thereby reducing toxic smoke inhalation and promoting healthier environments. According to the World Health Organization, over 4.3 million premature deaths per year are linked to household air pollution, largely from such indoor fires.

We thank you in advance for your support!
