Students Support Food4Kids

"It's wonderful to see Mohawk students eager to help their neighbours in our community. Teaching the power of philanthropy to students is built into the curriculum for the Financial Services program. One of the term projects for students is a team-based assignment where they must hit 'targets' for donors and dollars when fundraising for a registered charity.

Students designed the latest project around the local charity Food4Kids Hamilton.

Food4Kids Hamilton is a non-profit organization that provides healthy food for kids with limited or no access to food. Each year, they help thousands of children in Hamilton who struggle each weekend without food. Food4Kids relies on donations, fundraisers, or one-time grants to operate.

“Since our upcoming Financial Services grads will be endeavouring into careers where the main goal is to help people (their clients), this fundraiser seems like the perfect fit. Moreover, the students will benefit from several aspects of this experiential learning activity in the form of various life skills: The importance of philanthropy, The power of active volunteering, and becoming champions for a highly worthy cause”, said Rob Lysohirka, CFP, RRC, Faculty/Business.

The winning team, pictured in photo below, received five hundred dollars from Scotiabank.
