The Hamilton Fire Department is proud to support Test Your Smoke Alarm Day on September 28, 2026 — a province-wide initiative dedicated to saving lives through a simple 
monthly habit. 

In a house fire, you may have as little as 60 seconds to escape. A working smoke alarm is often your first—and only—warning. 

Two Steps to Keep Your Family Safe: 

1. Test Monthly: Check your smoke alarms every month to ensure they work when you need them most.
2. Plan Your Escape: Create and practice a home fire escape plan so everyone knows how to get out quickly and safely. 

Take the Pledge. Be a Hero. Commit to testing your smoke alarms every month. It takes just a few seconds and could save your life or the life of someone you love.
