The Low Carbon Readiness Program celebrates its 3rd anniversary
Supported in part by funding from the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP), the Low Carbon Readiness Program (LCRP) at Mohawk College is celebrating its 3rd anniversary.
In 3 years, Mohawk’s Centre for Climate Change Management (CCCM) and Energy & Power Innovation Centre (EPIC), have provided dedicated support to 30 small and medium sized businesses (SMEs) through the program, including:
- Technology Proof-of-Concept Data Acquisition and Integration
- Determining feasibility, data monitoring, energy improvements
- Evaluation of Greenhouse Gas Emissions
- Carbon footprint, energy modelling, and life cycle analyses
- Greater Understanding of Carbon Economy Mechanisms and Policy
- Carbon tax implications for business, carbon pricing education and carbon market applicability
Through the program SMEs have received support on carbon accountability related to emissions accounting (Scope 1 and 2), supply chain transparency (Scope 3), and product lifecycle emissions (LCA). The program has also attracted SMEs interested in decarbonization technologies, including Cleantech and renewable energy and sustainable housing projects within the construction industry.
To date, the 30 SMEs engaged have represented 9 sectors, including:
- Agriculture (8%)
- Carbon Accounting Software (11%)
- Carbon Capture (5%)
- Construction (11%)
- Energy (11%)
- Energy Management (6%)
- Information Technology (6%)
- Manufacturing (31%)
- Transportation (8%)
Eligible businesses referred by NRC IRAP, can work directly with Mohawk College to receive up to 120 hours of consultancy services on energy, carbon and sustainability at no cost, including:
- Quantifying and benchmarking carbon emissions
- Product LCA, Scope 1, 2, 3 emissions
- Technology proof-of-concept and data integration
- Feasibility testing, monitoring tools, energy visualization
- Carbon economy principles
- Carbon pricing, carbon crediting systems
- Custom energy and carbon recommendations
