Three Mountaineer fall athletes receive season-ending OCAA honours
Three Mohawk Mountaineers student-athletes have been recognized with season-ending awards from the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) as the Fall sports season concludes.
Genevieve Fry of the women’s softball team was named an OCAA Second-Team All-Star and earned a spot on the All-Rookie Team. Women’s soccer player Madison Rodriguez was selected to the OCAA West All-Rookie Team, while men’s soccer goalkeeper Marco Ferrusi was named an OCAA West Second-Team All-Star.
Fry made an immediate impact in her debut season, consistently batting near the top of the Mountaineers' lineup. In 19 games, she hit an even .400 with 26 hits, four doubles, two triples, two home runs, 10 RBIs, 14 runs scored and four stolen bases. Among first-year student-athletes, she ranked fifth in batting average, fourth in hits, tied for third in extra-base hits and tied for second in home runs. Fry becomes just the second Mountaineer since the All-Rookie Team was introduced in 2023 to earn both All-Star and All-Rookie honours in the same season.
Rodriguez appeared in 10 games during the 2025 season, recording two goals and three assists to lead Mohawk in total points. She becomes the first Mountaineer named to the All-Rookie Team since the award was introduced by the OCAA in 2024.
Ferrusi took over full-time duties as Mohawk’s starting goalkeeper this season and quickly proved he belonged. The second-year keeper appeared in 10 matches, ranking fourth in the OCAA with 56 saves. His .789 save percentage was the third-best among goalkeepers with at least seven games played. Ferrusi is the second Mohawk goalkeeper in the past three seasons to earn all-star recognition.
