History of Pride

This session will focus on history of advocacy related to queer and trans communities across North America. It will provide a look at the history of Pride in North America – how it all started, and how it has (and continues to) evolved. Pride is not just a party; Pride is political and it is more important than ever to acknowledge its roots. From the Stonewall Riots in New York City, to Operation Soap and a look back to the first Dyke and Trans marches in Toronto, all the way through to today, we will discuss all that has changed and all that has stayed the same.

This session is available: June 29

Course 1: EDI 101 - Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

In this session, you will become acquainted with the terminology associated with equity, diversity and inclusion work. It is important that the course begins with a foundation in terminology so that we can communicate with a common language. While this may seem basic or elementary to some, it is the springboard upon which any other learning related to equity, diversity and inclusion, rest. The session considers the EDI context in Canada, including the legislative framework, and then specific to Mohawk College. Participants have an opportunity to consider their own personal identities and how those impact and are impacted by working at Mohawk College.

This session is available: July 8

Course 2: Inclusion at Mohawk
