Wellness in the shade

Summer is a time for rest, reset, and warmth, but let’s be real, sometimes it’s too warm. With rising temperatures and changing routines, staying well doesn’t have to mean pushing through the heat. Whether you're on campus or at home, there are plenty of ways to support your health while keeping cool.

Cool indoor wellness ideas

  • Move mindfully: Try yoga, pilates, or dance workouts! Many gyms or YouTube channels offer free classes.
  • Creative rest: Journaling, painting, or learning a new skill can ease stress and bring clarity.
  • Eat for hydration: Snack on fruits like watermelon and cucumber or try smoothie bowls and chilled soups.
  • Recharge your mind: Breathwork and meditation apps can help with sleep, focus, and anxiety

Shaded outdoor options

  • Take early morning or sunset walks in tree-covered areas.
  • Have a picnic under the trees with a book, music, or friends.
  • If accessible, go swimming or do light stretching outside where it's breezy and shaded.

Summer health reminders

  • Stay hydrated (add citrus or mint for flavor).
  • Don’t skip meals, even if you feel less hungry.
  • Wear SPF
  • Pay attention to how your body feels. Rest is part of wellness.

Wellness also means Mental Health

Summer break can bring relief, but also unexpected loneliness, especially if friends are away, or if you're not traveling. Here are small ways to stay connected and supported:

  • Set one mini-goal each week: Maybe it’s trying a new recipe, texting a friend, or walking a new path.
  • Try phone-free mornings or evenings: Even 30 minutes without scrolling can make space for better sleep and more clarity.
  • Use mental health services and don’t hesitate to reach out.
