What you need to know if you are coming to campus in January

As we approach the start of the Winter semester at Mohawk College, we want to provide you with an update on the steps the college is taking to keep our campus community safe and to remind you of some important steps that must be completed before you come to campus this winter.

Key highlights from this communication:

  • Designated entrances will be in place at each campus.
  • You must provide proof of vaccination or have an approved exemption to access the campus and this must be done before you come to campus.
  • Testing is required for partially vaccinated or exempt individuals.
  • Do not come to campus if you are sick.
  • Masks must be worn on campus, regardless of vaccination status.

Please read the following information carefully. Specific or unique details not covered in this communication will be shared with students and employees directly via email and posted the college’s COVID-19 website.

1. Designated entrances at each campus.

Designated entrances have been set up at each campus. All other entry doors will remain locked to anyone entering the college. Each designated entrance will have check-in desks where students and employees will confirm their vaccination status by tapping their ONE card. If you do not have a ONE card you can show security your vaccination status in the Mohawk Safety App. You will then be given a colour-coded wrist band that confirms your status and allows you to come and go from the campus that day. Entry locations and additional details can be found under Entering Campus Checklist page on the college’s COVID-19 website. Please plan ahead and come prepared as this will help avoid delays and ensure everyone can access the campus in a timely fashion.

2. You need to provide proof of your Mohawk verified vaccination status or have an approved exemption to access the campus.

Please remember that you are not permitted access to any Mohawk campus or facility, or attend in-person classes, until you upload your proof of vaccination and have it verified by Mohawk or have an APPROVED exemption from the college. Proof of vaccination and exemptions will not be processed upon arrival. This MUST be done before you come to Mohawk College.

3. Upload your proof of vaccination or apply for an exemption today.

Please remember that the college is closed from December 24 to January 3. To have your proof of vaccination confirmed for January 3 please submit by Thursday, December 16. Proof of vaccination can be uploaded through the Mohawk Safety App (please use your Mohawk credentials when signing into the app). Instructions and details about alternate submission formats are available under the Proof of Vaccination section of the Mohawk College Vaccine Policy Statement.

Exemptions will only be approved on substantiated medical or non-medical human rights grounds. Please refer to the Exemptions section of the Mohawk College Vaccine Policy Statement for details about the information you are required to submit with your request. The deadline for applications for exemption was Friday, December 10 in order to be reviewed in time for January 3. Applications submitted after this date will be accepted but may not be reviewed in time for the start of classes in January.

4. Testing required for partially vaccinated or exempt individuals.

Any individual who is partially vaccinated by January 3 or has received an approved human rights-based exemption must complete Rapid Antigen Testing once every seven days. Individuals who have received only one dose of a Health Canada approved vaccine as of January 3, 2022 will be eligible for Rapid Antigen Testing until February 14, 2022. By February 14, 2022, if you are not Fully Vaccinated and have not received an approved exemption under the Ontario Human Rights Code, you will not be able to enter a Mohawk College Facility or attend a Mohawk College related event. For information on testing at Mohawk College visit: https://www.mohawkcollege.ca/covid-19-coronavirus/mohawk-colleges-covid-19-vaccination-policy-statement#Testing2

Please note that the St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton COVID-19 Test Centre that has been located at the Fennell campus is closing as of December 15, 2021. The new test centre will be located 1565 Upper James. For more information or to book an appointment visit: https://www.hamilton.ca/coronavirus/covid-19-testing.

PCR testing is available by appointment only for Mohawk students and employees (including contractors, the Mohawk Students’ Association, Paragon, Chartwells, etc). Visit the college’s COVID-19 website for more details on PCR eligibility and how to book an appointment.

5. Do not come to campus if you are sick.

Daily health screening is required at all campuses. Please complete the Health Screening Questionnaire found on the Mohawk Safety App each day you are coming to campus. If you are unable to complete the screening using the app you can review the screening questions that are posted to the college’s COVID-19 website. The screening questions will also be posted at each designated entrance. If you do not pass the health screening or if you are experiencing any symptoms, do not come to campus.

Mohawk College is asking that students and employees who have tested positive for COVID-19, are a close contact of someone with COVID-19 or have had symptoms that are consistent with COVID-19 complete an online COVID-19 Self Disclosure Form so that we can help reduce the spread of the virus and assist with contact tracing if needed. Completion of the form is voluntary.

6. Masks must be worn on campus, regardless of vaccination status.

Anyone attending a Mohawk campus will be required to wear a college-supplied mask while on campus. Masks must be worn regardless of a person’s vaccination status. The masks will be available at the Check-in Desks.

7. Mohawk continues to monitor the situation and will adjust these plans if the situation changes.

The health and safety of our campus community remains our top priority. Though we continue to plan for a semester that will see more students back on campus, we will be ready to adjust our plans if the situation changes and will continue to closely follow all public health mandates.

Please stay tuned to our COVID-19 update website for important updates from the college and for any changes or updates to the information shared in this email: https://www.mohawkcollege.ca/covid-19-coronavirus

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation as we work to keep our campus community safe.
