Can College Students Really Work as Partners with Faculty?

Testing a Student-Faculty Partnership for Co-constructing an ECE Outdoor Play Resource

ECE

An upcoming webinar hosted by Mohawk College IDEAWORKS will explore how a student-faculty partnership helped create an outdoor play resource guide.

True student-faculty partnerships are challenging to achieve due to potential power dynamics. But they aren’t impossible.

On December 9, Dawn Danko and Erin Cameron will be sharing findings from their research project that explored how a student-faculty partnership model was used to support the Early Childhood Education Program through the co-construction of an ECE Outdoor Play Resource. They will be discussing successes, challenges and recommendations for future student-faculty partnerships at the College level.

Dawn is a Curriculum Development Specialist with Mohawk’s Centre for Teaching & Learning and Erin is the Associate Dean for the School of Communications, Creative Industries & Liberal Studies based at Mohawk’s McKeil School of Business. The project was supported by the IDEAWORKS Catalyst Fund, which provides funding to support new applied research and innovative scholarship in teaching and learning at Mohawk College.

The free webinar will be held on Wednesday, December 9, 2020, from 2 p.m.- 3 p.m. and is open to Mohawk College employees, students and the public.
