Everyday Heroes for August 2018

For making sure the college always looks its best, Maggie Makar is a Mohawk Everyday Hero. Maggie joined Mohawk in the summer of 2016 and serves as a graphic designer with Marketing and Creative Services. Maggie designs everything from billboards in the community and wall wraps at the college to print and digital advertising, magazines, brochures, logos and student communications. Maggie is recognized for consistently turning out great work and being a pleasure to collaborate with while she meets urgent requests and juggles multiple projects for colleagues from across the college. Maggie was presented with her Everyday Hero Award during a Student Services Professional Development Day by VP Wayne Poirier, Director of Marketing and Creative Services Katherine McCurdy and Chief Marketing and Recruitment Officer Lori Morgan. For making prospective, current and graduating students feel welcomed and appreciated, Lucy Lobodici is a Mohawk College Everyday Hero. Lucy joined Mohawk in 1995 and has served as a department secretary, administrative assistant and special events officer before her current role as Special Events Coordinator with Student Life. Lucy coordinates and helps run college and community events, including open houses, Destination College, citizenship ceremonies, International Education Week, Day One – College Welcome, the Mohawk Student Leadership Academy and Convocation. Last month, Lucy went above and beyond in helping with CODEfest for Grade 7 and 8 students in partnership with the Industry Education Council of Hamilton and Mohawk’s Community Access and Engagement Team. In all of her work, Lucy looks for ways to mentor students and help them achieve their full potential. Lucy was presented with her award during a Student and Alumni Services PD session by Vice President Wayne Poirier (left), Student Life Supervisor Brittany Lauton, Student Life Director Rochelle Reid and President Ron McKerlie.
