In this foundational discussion, participants will learn common words and terms that can be used and terms that should be avoided when talking about Indigenous peoples and communities. Facilitators will lead participants through an analysis of each term and the reasoning behind whether or not it should be used.

Wednesday, June 25 | 1 - 2pm

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize and use appropriate terminology relating to Indigenous peoples and communities; identify and avoid harmful terminology
  • Explain the reasoning behind wise practices relating to terminology, and apply those practices when encountering new terms
  • Advocate for appropriate terminology in their own roles and daily lives
