Mohawk College’s Global Learning Opportunities (GLO) program offers students the chance to gain valuable, life-changing experiences while at the same time increasing their intercultural competencies and learning in-demand skills.

The GLO program provides organized learning experiences for full-time students, faculty and staff. Applications are now open for the 2023-2024 Global Learning Opportunities program.

There are two options available:

Global Learning Opportunity – international travel

Faculty can apply to lead an organized learning experience for full time students that takes place abroad and contributes to the achievement of global learning outcomes. This past February faculty members from Early Childhood Education led the first GLO trip to the Dominican Republic via the Dream Project. The team visited non profit childcare settings to gain intercultural understanding.

Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) - Virtual Global Learning Opportunity

Faculty can apply to lead a Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) experience for their class via the Global Learning Opportunity application. COIL connects classrooms through collaborative student projects across time zones, language differences and geographical distance using online tools. Past faculty have indicated that ‘[the] program is definitely important. Many of our domestic students have not experienced life outside of Canada [and] our industry is looking for international exposure.’
