IDEAWORKS announces Research Chair - Sustainability

Mohawk College's IDEAWORKS is pleased to announce the appointment of Tony Cupido as the Research Chair - Sustainability.

“Through the dedicated and integral role Tony played in creating a true Canadian success story in the construction of The Joyce Centre, he is the perfect person to lead our Sustainability research agenda. With Tony’s vast experience, we will be able to access the data generated by the new building and use it to study energy use in other buildings. We are excited to have Tony join our team. Tony offers more than 37 years’ experience in engineering, facilities management and capital development to this exciting new role. Having earned a Professional Engineering designation and a doctorate degree in Civil Engineering, with a focus on green buildings and policy, he is a former adjunct faculty member at McMaster University and Assistant Vice President of Facilities at the university. Most recently, as Mohawk’s Chief Building and Facilities Officer, Tony was responsible for the planning, design, construction and operation of The Joyce Centre for Partnership & Innovation – the largest institutional net-zero building in Canada. Tony will now lead a research portfolio that will engage students, faculty and industry in multi-disciplinary projects that will contribute to a low-carbon economy and offer practical solutions to social, economic and environmental challenges.

Future Ready Innovators Series 

In recognition of his role in the state-of-the-art construction of The Joyce Centre, Tony is the first featured Innovator in a newly launched focus on innovators from the Mohawk community. He will speak and lead a public panel discussion on the opening evening of the upcoming Cities in Action Bay Area Climate Change Summit on March 25 at Royal Botanical Gardens.
