Mohawk College is Rising to the Challenge of Training Workers for the Jobs of Tomorrow

Mohawk is positioned, along with other C2R2 members, to develop thousands of training and applied research opportunities to help Canadians access new careers, support the transition to a low-carbon economy, and foster inclusion, diversity, and equity. We are asking parliamentarians to support C2R2’s efforts and recognize the opportunity C2R2 provides to prepare our workforce, and that it receives the support required for success.

As Canada builds a more sustainable and equitable economy, Mohawk College and Canadian Colleges for a Resilient Recovery (C2R2) are ready to train the green workforce of our country’s future.

C2R2 Twitter Templates (2)C2R2 is a coalition of highly aligned institutions from across Canada with an established commitment to sustainability, that have come together as a driving force, providing the skills required to transition to a clean economy in Canada.

C2R2 members will be meeting with federal parliamentarians to ensure they understand that Canada’s colleges, cégeps, institutions, and polytechnics play a critical role in preparing workers for a changing economy. C2R2 committed to working with the government and parliamentarians of all political stripes to ensure workers are prepared for the employment opportunities that are emerging in every region of the country, and that they fully benefit from the transition to a low-carbon economy.

“I am proud of the founding role Mohawk College has played in the formation of C2R2 and that we are actively engaged with the federal government to demonstrate how Canadian colleges can quickly respond to complex training and applied research challenges from coast to coast to coast,” said President McKerlie.

C2R2 members are working to ensure that its members are at the forefront of the transition to a low-carbon future by:

  • Rapidly implementing and scaling curriculum initiatives focused on training workers for a resilient recovery to meet federal targets
  • Demonstrating new and existing research expertise and facilities to innovate technology, techniques and products to drive the low-carbon transition and significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions
  • Utilizing the C2R2 pan-Canadian network to collaborate and expand the reach of training and research abilities to better support women, underrepresented populations, First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples

Mohawk College educates and serves more than 32,500 full-time, part-time, apprenticeship and international students at three main campuses and at the College’s Centre for Aviation Technology in Hamilton, Ontario. Since becoming the first college in Ontario to introduce a comprehensive Environmental Management Plan (2011), Mohawk has been a leader in environmental stewardship. Mohawk is home to: The Joyce Centre for Partnership & Innovation, the first building in Canada to be zero carbon dually certified; The Centre for Climate Change Management at Mohawk College; and the Bay Area Climate Change Office. The college supports a Research Chair for Sustainability and a Sustainability Team that manages more than 30 programs and initiatives each year. Mohawk College is a leading member of the Canadian Colleges for a Resilient Recovery pan-Canadian coalition. A key aspiration of the college Strategic Plan is to Make a meaningful impact on climate change.
