National Recognition for International Team

Thea Laidman, Associate Vice President, International, has been appointed as the Ontario representative on the Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) International Advisory Committee. Thea assumed her position on February 1, 2024, and will continue as a member for the next two years.

CICan is the national and international voice of Canada’s largest post-secondary education network. They support Canada’s publicly funded colleges, institutes, the College of General and Professional Teaching (CEGEPs), and polytechnics.

As part of CICan’s International Advisory Committee, Thea will help support the associations vision and mission by providing feedback and expertise on key topics related to international education, both in Canada and abroad. The strategy will support members as they pursue new opportunities in international education across three pillars: futureproofing Canada, bringing the world to Canada, and taking Canada to the world.

With the recent announcement from the federal government on changes to the international student program, this is a pivotal time to have an experienced and collaborative voice around the table, to advocate for students and institutions.

“This will be a challenging time for international strategy within post-secondary educational institutions, but I am looking forward to this incredible opportunity as we try to move and adjust to the recent changes,” said Thea Laidman, Associate Vice President, International.
