Paid parking will return to Mohawk College on September 1, 2021.

Beginning September 1, 2021, all employees and students who will be coming to the Fennell and Stoney Creek campuses, and the Centre for Aviation Technology at the Hamilton Airport, will be required to purchase parking.

With many employees continuing to work remotely for the foreseeable future and some required to be on campus for limited amounts of time, the Parking Office will be offering expanded and flexible parking permit options to accommodate a variety of parking needs. More details are included below and the full breakdown of 2021-2022 parking rates can be found at the bottom of this email.

In addition to parking, campus is accessible by public transit and active transportation like cycling, walking, and rolling. For updates on these services and links to COVID-19 safety information for carpooling, ridesharing and transit, visit the Campus Access website.

Employees must purchase parking permits or re-enrol in payroll deduction using the parking website.

Employees who will be coming to campus on or after September 1, will need to purchase parking permits or re-enroll for their annual parking permits. Permits can be purchased online at https://parking.mohawkcollege.ca. Payroll deduction will be available for eligible full-time employees for annual permits only. Payroll deduction will not be automatically re-instated. Employees can re-enroll for payroll deduction through the parking website.

Flexible permit options are available through the Honk Parking App.

Flexible parking permits will be available for purchase through the HONK parking app Find & Pay For Parking | HONK (honkmobile.com) Flex Passes are pre-purchased passes that are validated at the time of parking. Passes can be purchased in blocks of 5 or 10, and are valid for use within the academic semester they are purchased in. Please note that if you choose this option you must activate the permit via the Honk App when you arrive on campus. Flex Pass permits are available for both General and Preferred parking lots.

Transponders will work but your vehicle must be registered to avoid getting a ticket.

If you have a parking transponder for a preferred lot, please note that your transponder continues to remain active. Transponders will provide access to preferred lots, but if you have not purchased parking through the parking website or re-enrolled in payroll deduction, you may receive a parking ticket as your transponder is not associated with your account.

Employees who had preferred permits at the time of the college-wide shutdown in March 2020 will retain their preferred status for 2021-2022.

If you had a preferred permit at the time the college shutdown in March 2020, you will not lose your preferred status in 2021-2022, regardless of whether you purchase an annual permit or not. Your transponder will continue to work and you will have the option to purchase Preferred Daily, Preferred Semester or Annual Preferred permits. Flexible daily preferred permits can be purchased through the HONK mobile app. Employees with P4 parking permits in 2020 will be able to use the P1 and P2 preferred lots.

Parking rates are increasing for 2021.

Mohawk College will be increasing parking rates for 2021. The increase that is being applied was approved prior to the start of the pandemic in 2020 and is in line with previous single-year increases. Parking rate increases are a normal part of college operations and are necessary to help offset increases in the costs of maintaining and operating the lots.

P4 Preferred Parking at the Fennell Campus will be for St. Joseph’s Healthcare COVID-19 Assessment Centre Parking only.

The P4 lot will continue to be used exclusively for the St Joseph’s Healthcare COVID-19 Assessment Centre until further notice. All employees in possession of a P4 Permit will be able to park in P1 or P2 for the Fall semester. Please remember that while your transponder will provide access to the preferred lot, you must possess a valid preferred permit to avoid getting a ticket.

Paid Parking will now be required at the Mohawk Centre for Aviation Technology.

Beginning September 1, 2021 paid parking will be enforced at the Mohawk Centre for Aviation Technology at the Hamilton Airport. Employees and students will be required to purchase a permit online. Once purchased, you will be sent a physical permit that must be displayed in your vehicle. The physical permit only needs to be displayed while parking at the Centre for Aviation Technology. The college is now charging to park at the airport facility due to the need to lease the parking space at that location.

Parking at the IAHS Campus at McMaster University.

Parking at the IAHS is managed by McMaster University. For information about parking at the McMaster University campus visit McMaster Parking. IAHS employees who are travelling to any of Mohawk’s other campuses will be required to purchase parking for those locations.

If you have any questions regarding parking, please contact Parking Services by email parking@mohawkcollege.ca.
