Two new deans welcomed to Mohawk

Mohawk College is pleased to announce the newest members of its Senior Leadership Team. 

Sylvia Lowndes has been appointed Dean, McKeil School of Business, Creative Industries, Liberal Studies and Communications.

Sylvia brings more than 16 years of expertise and experience leading academic teams and innovative programming in a post-secondary environment. She joins Mohawk after serving as Dean, Pilon Schoo of Business and Dean, Faculty of Continuing and Professional Studies at Sheridan College, where she advanced excellence in teaching and learning in a dynamic environment that included both full- and part-time students as well as a wide variety of corporate clients and partners.

Prior to joining the college sector, Sylvia held several senior leadership positions in the financial services sector for more than 18 years, including with the Royal Bank Financial Group and the National Bank of Canada, in Ontario and Quebec. Sylvia holds a Masters of Business Administration from Dalhousie University and a Bachelor of Arts – Urban Planning from McGill University. Sylvia started in her new role on February 1.

Janet Shuh has been appointed Dean,Continuing Education and Academic Development.

Janet brings more than 20 years of extensive leadership expertise and experience in both the college sector and broader public service to Mohawk. She most recently served as Director, Educational Development and Technology, at Sheridan College where she oversaw college educational development and digital teaching and learning priorities in the Centre for Teaching and Learning. Prior to this, Janet was the Associate Dean, School of Social and Life Sciences at Sheridan, overseeing a diverse portfolio of programs and curriculum following eight years as a Professor of Criminology in the School of Public Safety at Sheridan.

Before joining the college sector, Janet served as a Senior Policy Analyst for the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services in the Ontario Public Service as well as a Research Assistant in the Federal Department of Justice. Janet holds a Ph.D. from the University of Toronto’s Department of Leadership, Higher and Adult Education as well as a Master of Arts degree from Simon Fraser University and a Bachelor of Social Sciences degree from the University of Ottawa. Janet started in her new role on February 8.
